Pakistan has finished at the top of Group 2 while India has been pushed to its bottom after the Men in Green trounced the Kohli-led squad by 10 wickets on Sunday.  Pakistan are on top after defeating India in the opening game of the T20 World Cup. With highest Covid Death rate, Peru death toll Crosses 200,000 mark

LIMA: Peru, which has the world's highest Covid-19 death rate per capita, has surpassed 200,000 deaths from the coronavirus, the health ministry said on Friday. The ministry announced 25 new deaths over the previous 24 hours, taking the South American country over the symbolic threshold with 200.003 deaths since the pandemic started in March 2020. The Andean country of 33 million has also recorded 2.2 million infections. With 6,065 deaths per million population, Peru's Covid mortality rate is the highest in the world, according to an AFP count based on official data. The news comes at a time of falling daily cases and deaths attributed to the increase in vaccinations, although authorities remain worried about a potential new wave of infections due to the Delta variant that is now predominant in the country. Pakistan Stock Exchange revises market timings

KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) has revised its timings for the trading session, a statement said on Friday. The new timings will come into effect from October 25 (Monday). According to a notice sent to all market participants, key changes to the Designated Time Schedule (DTS) are: extension of 30 minutes for continuous trading session; reduction of post-close session to 10 minutes and reduction of the break period to 1 minute. The new trading session timings would be from 9:30am to 4pm from Monday to Thursday. On Fridays, the market will operate in two sessions, where the first session will be from 9:15am to 12pm and the second session from 2:30pm to 5pm. The office timings of PSX would be from 9am to 5:15 pm from Monday to Friday.

Pakistan logs 591 new coronavirus cases, 18 deaths in 24 hours

ISLAMABAD: The daily COVID-19 case count has been showing a downward trend for the last couple of weeks as the country reported 591 new new coronavirus infections and 18 deaths during the last 24 hours, data from the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) showed Sunday morning. The number of active cases, too, is continuing on its downward trend and was recorded at 23,917 Sunday. 'As per the NCOC’s latest statistics, 43,522 COVID-19 tests were conducted across the country in the last 24 hours, of which 591 returned positive. The country has mostly recorded less than 700 daily infections all of this week. The country reported a coronavirus positivity rate of less than 2% for the ninth consecutive day, government data showed. According to the official portal, the rate of positive cases during the last 24 hours was 1.35%. Since October 16, Pakistan's positivity rate has been under 2%. The two-day Conference, titled “Role of Masjid, Madaris, Khanqas, and Imambargahs for the promotion of unity and harmony in the light of teachings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH),” would conclude on Tuesday. Dollar Rises to New record

ISLAMABAD/ KARACHI: The National Assembly echoed with a strong protest against inflation, as all economic indicators showed a negative trend on Monday. The value of the US dollar reached an all-time high against the Pak rupee on Monday, selling for Rs172.78 in the interbank market. Gold rates in the local market rose by Rs1,700 per tola, while stocks ended lower after a volatile session. The rupee skidded to an all-time low amid increasing uncertainty over a $6 billion International Monetary Fund (IMF) loan tranche discussion. The rupee closed at a life-low of 172.78 per dollar, after hitting 173 level in the early deals, and 0.93 per cent weaker than its previous close of 171.18. According to data released by All Sindh Sarafa Jewellers Association, gold rates in the local market moved up to Rs119,700 per tola.   ISLAMABAD: The government has decided to reduce taxes on the prices of food items amid rising inflation, sources told Geo News on Monday. According to the sources, a meeting to review the rising inflation and the overall economic situation in the country was held here under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Imran Khan. During the meeting, the Prime Minister was briefed on the prices of commodities in the country, sources said, adding that in order to give relief to the masses, the government has decided to reduce taxes on food items. Sources said that PM Imran Khan has also directed the authority concerned to take strict measures against hoarders and artificial inflation.
